Fix for BF4 Loading Screen Bug; BF4 BugTracker

For some people, the latest patch, which fixed a few minor issues, and the big “Sound Loop Crash”, created a problem with not being to get past the loading screen, though most indications are that gameplay is still consistent.

Some players have found various fixes for this issue, and it seems to stem from using a third-party settings changer to effect the UI.DrawEnable configuration.

Here’s a suggestion on how to fix it, thanks to /u/LightOfShadows on Reddit:

In your origin games/battlefield 4 folder (or where ever your root folder is) open user.cfg in notepad or other text program. Delete the line UI.DrawEnable 1 and save the file.

Note, this settings file should only be present if you have manually created it using a third-party settings editor for BF4...

In DICE’s “Ask DICE” seriesaudio director Bence Pajor answered questions on sound design, sent in by the Battlefield 4 community.

Q: Thank you for a fun game and an awesome “sound image”. Is the sound team split up in smaller groups, one team focusing on vehicles and another on guns/ambient etc.?

A: You’re welcome! The sound team is usually split up in small groups that handle specific parts of the soundscape, but we all touch pretty much everything during the full course of a project.

Q: What is the most challenging thing to do from a sound perspective?
A: The most challenging thing is to make all the parts fit together as one coherent experience.

First community mission pays today. Second mission unsuccessful. Third mission details tomorrow [UPDATE]

The DICE Community Missions during the Player Appreciation Month have been great examples of cooperation in the Battlefield 4 community. The first mission to grab 10,000,000 dog tags in just six days, was a success. As a reward, all participating players across all formats will receive a gold battlepack entitled to their Origin account today.

DICE’s second community mission failed to reach the goal. Battlefield players managed to destroy 46,190,615 vehicles, just shy of the 50,000,000 target and thus will not be rewarded with a gold battlepack. It seems like the Battlefield is full of drivers skilled at using counter-measures!

The third DICE Community Mission will start this Friday, February 21. DICE is holding off with the details for that one just a little bit longer, stay tuned...

The ‘Handgun Shortcut Kit’ on Origin includes unlocks for the M9, QSZ-92, MP443, Shorty 12G, G18, FN57, M1911, 93R, CZ-75, .44 Magnum, and Compact 45. It notably doesn’t include any DLC unlocks. Ask DICE: Linnea Harrison answers questions on Battlefield 4 level design

In DICE’s “Ask DICE” series, 3D level artist Linnea Harrison (@Dhiel) answered questions on level design, sent in by the Battlefield 4 community.

Q: Can you explain the whole process of map design from start? First you must have an idea of location… and then? How do you test the gameplay of a new level design?
A: After the main setting of a game is decided, everyone at DICE sends in their awesome ideas for locations and interesting gameplay hooks. We had hundreds of ideas submitted for levels in Battlefield 4. The level designer/artists then starts blocking in some spaces for the level based on neat locations near the reference. The larger spaces (bases) are shifted around, reworked, reworked, and reworked until they are as fun as possible...
